teachersHaruna Iddrisu – Minister for Education

The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has lauded the government’s introduction of a new scheme of service for teachers, calling it a significant move to enhance career growth and promotion opportunities in the education sector.

Addressing participants at a recent programme, the minister urged teachers to appreciate President John Dramani Mahama for implementing reforms aimed at improving professional advancement and simplifying promotions within the Ghana Education Service (GES).

“I know there are teachers here, and teachers owe President Mahama a round of applause,” he remarked.

According to Mr. Iddrisu, one of the major reforms under the current administration is the separation of ranks from positions within the GES hierarchy, especially across the Director I, Director II, and Director levels.

“It is under President Mahama’s leadership that we separated rank from post from Director I to Director II and Director,” he explained.

He added that the newly developed Scheme of Service would ensure smoother and more efficient promotions for teachers nationwide.

The Minister also revealed that results of the recent teacher promotion examinations had been released, noting that successful candidates would soon begin to benefit from the new system.

“Two weeks ago, we published the promotion exam results, and those who passed will enjoy the benefits under the new Scheme of Service,” he stated.

The new policy is expected to improve career progression in the education sector by providing clearer promotion pathways and reducing delays associated with rank advancement.

Mr. Iddrisu said the reforms are part of wider government measures to strengthen Ghana’s education system and improve working conditions for teachers across the country.
