The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has instructed the Ghana Education Service (GES) to urgently reassess how examination question papers are transported, following delays that disrupted the start of exams at some centres nationwide.

The directive comes after an incident on Monday, May 4, at the Boako examination centre, where late delivery of question papers affected 273 candidates from nine schools.

During the Minister’s visit, answer booklets had already been distributed, but candidates, invigilators, and supervisors were left waiting for the question papers.

Meanwhile, other examination centres had already begun their papers about 15 minutes earlier.

Concerned about the situation, Mr Iddrisu tasked the Director-General of GES to collaborate with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to urgently review and improve the logistics involved in distributing examination materials.

He noted that candidates are typically expected to be seated at least 15 minutes before the exam begins, but observed that while answer sheets were available, the question papers were not.

He stressed the need for immediate reforms to prevent a recurrence, especially given the Director-General’s role on the WAEC Council.
