Apostle Nyamekye

The Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, Apostle Eric Nyamekye, has called on Ghanaians to take greater responsibility for the country’s development instead of placing all the blame for corruption on politicians.

Speaking during the 2026 National Day of Prayer held in Accra on Wednesday, July 1, Apostle Nyamekye stressed that Ghana’s progress depends on the collective efforts of its citizens and should not be viewed as the sole responsibility of political leaders.

He encouraged Ghanaians to play active roles in promoting peace, unity, and national development wherever they live and work.

Referencing the biblical instruction to “seek the peace and prosperity” of the nation, the Church of Pentecost leader said every citizen has a duty to contribute positively to Ghana’s growth.

He noted that patriotism and shared responsibility are essential for national transformation, rather than relying entirely on governments and public officials.

Apostle Nyamekye questioned why politicians are often singled out as the only cause of corruption, pointing out that they make up only a small fraction of Ghana’s population.

“We are making a mistake by always blaming politicians. How many are they? What about the millions of us? Our forefathers did not think the way we do today.

In a population of over 34 or 35 million people, how many politicians and government appointees do we have? How can such a small number determine our destiny? About 71 percent of Ghanaians identify as Christians. If we are not participating in corruption, how has it become so widespread?” he asked.

Although he acknowledged the important role of leadership in shaping national development, Apostle Nyamekye maintained that the values and conduct of ordinary citizens ultimately influence the quality and effectiveness of leadership.

He concluded by urging Ghanaians to embrace integrity, accountability, and patriotism in their everyday lives, emphasizing that these values are essential for building a stronger and more prosperous nation.
