Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) players and staff will not attend the 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony because their rescheduled Ligue 1 fixture against Olympique Marseille, known as “Le Classique,” now directly clashes with the timing of the awards event.
Originally scheduled for Sunday, September 21, 2025, the match was postponed due to severe weather conditions and rescheduled for Monday evening, which happens to be the same night as the Ballon d’Or ceremony at Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris.
Nine PSG players from last season’s treble-winning squad, including top Ballon d’Or nominee Ousmane Dembele, were nominated for the award along with coach Luis Enrique who was nominated for Men’s Coach of the Year. However, the Ligue 1 match rescheduling means that these players and the coaching staff will be unavailable to attend the ceremony because of league obligations.
Ousmane Dembele and Désiré Doué, both injured and thus not in the matchday squad, remain the only PSG players who might attend the ceremony. The rest of the nominated players and the coach are compelled to focus on the crucial league clash against Marseille.
This scheduling conflict has overshadowed PSG’s presence at football’s most prestigious individual awards ceremony despite their strong representation in the nominations. The club confirmed that the match will go ahead as per league rules that postponed matches must be played the following day.
This situation highlights the clash between club commitments and individual awards ceremonies, leaving PSG’s players and staff sidelined from the high-profile event while simultaneously competing in a major domestic fixture.
