GES promotion

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has opened applications for qualified serving teachers and officers seeking promotion to the ranks of Director II and Director I.

The promotion exercise is being conducted following the president’s directive to decouple positions from ranks and the introduction of a new scheme of service for the Ghana Education Service.

The GES said applicants will be assessed based on their academic qualifications, professionalism, competence, work performance, experience, and successful completion of the required assessment procedures.

Requirements for Director II

To qualify for promotion to Director II, an applicant must meet the following conditions:

  • Be a serving professional teacher of the Ghana Education Service.
  • Hold the rank of Deputy Director and have served in that rank for a minimum of four years.
  • Have a satisfactory employment record, demonstrated performance and good professional conduct.
  • Possess at least a Master’s degree in Education, Management, Administration, Social Science or another relevant field.
  • Have a satisfactory 2025 Staff Performance Appraisal Report with an average PASS score of at least 70%.
  • Successfully pass the aptitude test organised by the Ghana Education Service.
  • Successfully complete a selection interview conducted by the Public Services Commission in consultation with the Ghana Education Service Council.

Requirements for Director I

Applicants seeking promotion to the Director I rank must:

  • Have served as a Director II for at least four years.
  • Have a satisfactory work record, demonstrated performance, and exemplary conduct.
  • Obtain an average PASS score of at least 70% in the 2025 Staff Performance Appraisal Report.
  • Pass the aptitude test organised by the Ghana Education Service.
  • Pass the selection interview conducted by the Public Services Commission in consultation with the Ghana Education Service Council.

How to Apply

Eligible officers are required to complete the online application form and submit the necessary supporting documents.

Applicants are required to upload the following:

  • A recent passport-sized photograph.
  • Their most recent promotion letter; or
  • Their appointment letter to their current grade, where applicable.

All supporting documents must be submitted in PDF format, except for the passport-sized photograph. Applicants have also been advised to ensure that all uploaded documents are clear and readable.

Application Deadline

The application window will open on August 19, 2026, and close on September 2, 2026.

The GES has urged all serving officers and teachers who meet the eligibility requirements to complete their applications before the deadline.
