Ghana has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Bahamas to boost labour mobility and facilitate the recruitment of Ghanaian teachers and nurses for work opportunities in the Caribbean nation.

The agreement, signed by Emmanuel Agyekum, Minister of State in charge of Special Initiatives, signifies a new chapter in the growing partnership between the two countries. He was accompanied by Nelson Ndebah Ndebugre from the Office of the President.

During his visit, Mr. Agyekum met with Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Edward “Brave” Davis to reaffirm their shared commitment to fostering skills exchange and human-centered development between Ghana and The Bahamas.

In the first phase of the collaboration, experienced Ghanaian educators and healthcare professionals will be recruited to serve in The Bahamas. The initiative seeks to create international job opportunities for Ghanaians while helping the Caribbean nation address its need for qualified teachers and nurses.

Speaking at the signing event on October 22, Minister Agyekum described the MoU as a mutually beneficial arrangement that highlights global recognition of the competence, professionalism, and dedication of Ghana’s workforce.

“This initiative allows Ghanaian teachers and nurses to make a global impact while strengthening the ties of friendship and cooperation between our two nations,” he stated.

He assured that the welfare, rights, and safety of all recruited professionals would be prioritized, adding that the selection process would be transparent and conducted in partnership with relevant agencies and Bahamian authorities.

Mr. Agyekum also noted that the agreement paves the way for future collaborations in areas such as trade, tourism, culture, and human capital development. He expressed appreciation to the Government and people of The Bahamas for their continued partnership, emphasizing that the initiative aligns with Ghana’s vision of promoting skills export and expanding its global footprint through beneficial cooperation.

“This MoU serves as a bridge of opportunity between our nations and reflects our shared aspirations for progress,” he concluded
