The group, who have completed their national service and passed the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination, say they have been waiting for nearly two years without being posted. Despite submitting several petitions and holding engagements with the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance, and the GES, they claim that no definite assurance has been given regarding their employment.
According to Eshun De-Graft Brown, Vice President of the Concerned Unemployed Teacher Trainees, their patience is running out. Speaking on Channel One News on Sunday, November 2, he explained that the group is simply asking for a clear timeline on their recruitment.
“We have not heard any update yet, but I’m told the Public Accounts Committee will meet the Minister of Education on Monday. We want to know when clearance will be granted,” he stated.
He further noted that with the 2026 national budget expected to be presented on November 13, the trainees will not remain silent if there is still no update on their posting. “By about the 10th of November, we plan to hit the streets if no clear communication comes from the GES, the Ministry of Education, or the Ministry of Finance,” he cautioned.
The trainees argue that the prolonged delay has left many of them in financial distress, and their teaching licenses risk expiring soon. They are therefore urging the government to honour its commitment to teacher recruitment and extend the same support granted to previous cohorts
