GoldBod

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, has rejected allegations that the state-owned gold-buying institution suffered a $1.7 billion loss in 2025.

Mr Gyamfi described the claim as a “barefaced lie”, arguing that GoldBod’s audited financial statements present a completely different picture of the institution’s financial performance.

He made the remarks on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, during the Government Accountability Series, where he accused elements of the opposition, particularly Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, of repeatedly making the allegation both in Parliament and in the media.

According to Mr Gyamfi, GoldBod has repeatedly refuted the claim and encouraged Ghanaians to consult the institution’s audited financial statements when assessing its financial position.

He said GoldBod’s audited annual report and financial statements for the year ending December 31, 2025, show that the institution recorded an operational surplus of GH¢907 million and an overall surplus of GH¢5.4 billion.

Mr Gyamfi maintained that these figures directly contradict claims that GoldBod incurred losses during the period.

He said the allegation had been raised several times by Mr Afenyo-Markin and his supporters in Parliament and through the media, despite GoldBod having previously provided figures to counter the claim.

The GoldBod CEO stressed that the institution’s audited financial statements, rather than what he described as politically motivated claims, should be used as the authoritative basis for evaluating its financial performance.

He maintained that the figures contained in the audited accounts constitute clear evidence of GoldBod’s financial position for 2025.
