BECEBECE candidates writing thier final Exams

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has introduced its Examination Irregularity Portal, allowing candidates whose 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results have been flagged over suspected malpractice to verify their status and receive official updates.

The portal is part of WAEC’s post-examination review process aimed at promoting transparency and ensuring that all reported irregularity cases are handled fairly before the release of the final BECE results.

Candidates whose results have been withheld or placed under review can use the platform to check whether any concerns have been raised regarding their examination scripts or conduct during the exams.

What Is the BECE Irregularity Portal?

The BECE Irregularity Portal is an online platform created by WAEC to communicate directly with candidates whose examination records are under investigation for alleged breaches of examination regulations.

Using the portal, affected candidates can:

  • Confirm whether they have been cited for an examination irregularity.
  • View details of the allegation against them.
  • Access any instructions issued by WAEC.
  • Track the progress of ongoing investigations where applicable.

WAEC has maintained that results withheld due to suspected malpractice remain under investigation until the Council completes its review process. Depending on the findings, candidates’ results may be released, amended, or cancelled.

Who Needs to Use the Portal?

The irregularity portal is not intended for every BECE candidate.

It is specifically designed for candidates whose examination records have been flagged for suspected malpractice or whose results have been withheld pending investigations.

Candidates whose results are released without any issues and who have not received any notification from WAEC generally do not need to access the portal.

How to Check Your Status

Candidates can verify their status by visiting WAEC’s official Examination Irregularity Portal at https://irreg.waecgh.org/candidate/login and providing the required examination details.

Before accessing the portal, candidates should have the following information ready:

  • BECE Index Number
  • Examination Year
  • Any additional details requested by the system

Once the required information is submitted, the portal will display the candidate’s current status if an irregularity case has been opened.

Understanding a Withheld Result

A withheld result does not necessarily mean a candidate has been found guilty of examination malpractice.

Instead, it indicates that WAEC is investigating a reported irregularity before making a final decision.

During the review process, the Council examines evidence, considers reports from supervisors and invigilators, and evaluates any explanations or representations submitted by the affected candidate before reaching a verdict.

WAEC Warns Against Fraudsters

WAEC has once again cautioned candidates and the public against individuals who claim they can influence investigations or secure the release or upgrading of withheld results in exchange for money.

The Council insists that its examination system is secure and that no unofficial payment or intermediary can alter the outcome of an investigation.

Candidates and parents are therefore encouraged to rely solely on official WAEC communication channels for accurate information on examination results and irregularity cases.

2026 BECE Results Expected Soon

Although WAEC has yet to announce an official release date for the 2026 BECE results, reports suggest the Council is completing the final stages of marking and concluding investigations into reported examination irregularities.

The activation of the Examination Irregularity Portal is widely regarded as one of the final steps before the release of the results.

Candidates are advised to remain patient and follow only official updates regarding the publication of the 2026 BECE results.
